Articles across The Motor Ombudsman’s Knowledge Base are viewed more than 155,000 times during the opening quarter of 2024

The Motor Ombudsman’s online Knowledge Base, the reference tool designed to provide consumers with responses to some of the most common queries on car ownership, vehicle maintenance and dispute resolution, recorded 155,641 views of its 212 articles. The quick-reference and informative Q&As are hosted across 11 different categories, which span service and repair to distance sales. The latest tally of views equates to an 11% increase compared to the total of 140,730 seen during the first three months of 2023, highlighting the resource’s increasing popularity amongst motorists when visiting The Motor Ombudsman’s website.

Mirroring the trend seen last year in Q1 2023, the article about the Consumer Rights Act, and how it affects a vehicle purchase, found in the New and Used Car Sales category, was the most viewed Q&A on the Knowledge Base – consulted more than 12,600 times. Touching on a similar topic, and gaining prominence in terms of the information that users are looking for, after climbing from fifth place in Q1 2023, to second in Q1 2024 for the 10 most popular subjects on the Knowledge Base, is the Q&A about the rights of consumers when buying a car, with just over 11,000 reads.

Rounding off the top three most consulted topics, is the article explaining whether a car can be returned within 14 days of buying it (nearly 9,700 views). The Q&A looking at how to complain about a vehicle, also from the New and Used Car Sales section of the Knowledge Base, was the fourth most popular area (9,115 reads), followed by the subject of what action can be taken if a consumer has been sold a faulty car (just over 7,600 views).

Compared to the first quarter of 2023, there was just one new entry in the top 10 classification, which was the article which explains whether a new or used car buyer can get a refund of their deposit once it has been paid – a Q&A which attracted nearly 7,000 views in the first three months of this year. The most popular service and repair topic, was around the suggested steps to take if a garage was deemed to be taking too long when carrying out work on a customer’s vehicle (around 6,600 views).
