TMO: How long have you worked at Courtwood Car Services?

RR: I have worked at Courtwood Car Services for more than 20 years

TMO: Why did you choose to work at Courtwood Car Services?

RR: Courtwood car services is my family business and I am so proud of it. I stayed in the business because when I started to work there, I was dismissed by car owners because they wanted to talk to a mechanic.
I saw that car owners would not take into consideration their time.
I decided to learn about cars to feel confident to serve customers better and to increase productivity.

TMO: What do you most enjoy about your job and your work in the service and repair sector?

RR: I love pleasing customers with great service. I love inspiring car owners with knowledge to best maintain their cars and I enjoy exploring creative ways to help people understand how to invest in their car better.
I know that with me being the face of the business is an example to inspire more people into the industry especially women.

TMO: What are your career highlights?

RR: My highlights are my credibility in my community.
Going against the grain culturally to maintain and grow my business.

TMO: What do you do to encourage more women to take up a role within a garage or the motor industry?

RR: I encourage women to learn basic car maintenanc even to learn up you level 2 in motor mechanics because this will open doors to many other areas in the motor industry. I think the service adviser role is Is an important role to consider because, as women, we are naturally very caring and compassionate and are willing to go the extra mile to comfort and deliver that finesse.
For people to have a better experience.

TMO: What do you think the main challenges will be for your business this year?

RR: The main challenge that I see this year is credibility and to be recognised as a garage that is caring and is willing provide a good service to help customers.

I am very passionate to make a difference and I think what’s going to be a challenge is running the business as well as trying to fulfil my purpose elevate my career in the automotive trade.

TMO: How does your business benefit from being accredited to The Motor Ombudsman’s Motor Industry Code of Practice for Service and Repair?

RR: I think more needs to be done to instil in the minds of motorists the benefits of investing in a garage, accredited to The Motor Ombudsman, however, when customers are aware, it does enhance our credibility to be recognised as a garage that is caring and is willing provide a good service to help customers.
