WrenchWorks Automotive

TMO Talks To Mohammed Rabbi, Director

Founded in 2018, WrenchWorks Automotive is a mobile mechanic and vehicle recovery / transport business based in Essex (CM7), offering mobile repairs and roadside assistance to motorists. The Motor Ombudsman spoke to Mohammed, Director, to find out more about the business.

TMO: How did your interest start in the motor industry, and what drew you to work as a mobile mechanic?

MR: I have been interested in cars from a young age, and the mechanical aspects of how a car and engine work.

I’ve been working in dealerships since leaving college, and always preferred to work outdoors and meet all kinds of people.

TMO: Being based in Braintree, which geographical areas do you serve?

MR: We cover the counties of Essex, Hertfordshire, London, and Kent.

TMO: How big is your team?

MR: We currently have a small team consisting of two recovery drivers, and two mechanics.

TMO: What are some of the key challenges of being a mobile mechanic?

MR: It typically has to be the British weather, as it can mean sometimes that a job can take longer than anticipated!

TMO: What are the most common mechanical issues that you see when you are called out to customers?

MR: It can vary day-to-day, but most of the cases I see are MOT failures.

TMO: Are you able to accommodate the repair and recovery of electric vehicles (EVs) at the roadside?

MR: At the moment, we’re not able to accommodate the repair of electric vehicles, but are currently on training to work on EVs going forward.

TMO: How important is regular technical training and qualifications to stay up to date with the very latest technology and the needs of consumers?

MR: As manufacturers are introducing newer models, and technologies within vehicles, it is important to keep up to date, so when an issue arises with a customer vehicle, we are aware what we should be looking out for.

TMO: What key piece of advice would you give to motorists about the importance of maintaining a vehicle in a safe and roadworthy condition?

MR: Our advice to motorists is to check your vehicle at least once a week, including fluids, tyres, and the brakes. If possible, try to take a look underneath the vehicle in case of any issues.

TMO: What were the main reasons for WrenchWorks Automotive becoming accredited to The Motor Ombudsman’s Motor Industry Code of Practice for Service and Repair, and how do you promote this to customers?

MR: As a mobile mechanic, we became accredited to The Motor Ombudsman’s Service and Repair Code to proudly show we are a trusted and a genuine company that strives for the best level of customer service.

We promote The Motor Ombudsman by asking customers if they know about them, and whether they are aware that we are accredited to the organisation.

TMO: What is your outlook for the remainder of 2023?

MR: We are looking busy for the next few months, as customers are coming back from their summer holidays, and are preparing their cars for the winter season.

TMO: What do you like to do in your spare time away from work?

MR: Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends.

TMO: Thank you for your time Mohammed, and it has been very interesting to learn more about WrenchWorks Automotive.
