Welcome to The Motor Ombudsman

We are the Ombudsman for the motor industry

We raise standards in the motor industry through CTSI-approved Codes of Practice and provide dispute resolution for when complaints cannot be resolved.

For Consumers

Sometimes things do go wrong when buying and servicing vehicles, and in those instances we’re able to step in and help consumers and businesses find resolutions to automotive disputes.

For Businesses

Our CTSI-approved Codes of Practice offer businesses clear-cut customer service expectations. We help raise standards across the industry and step in to resolve disputes if things go wrong.

We are dedicated to the UK motor industry, enhancing standards and consumer protection.

Fully impartial, we are the first Ombudsman to focus solely on the automotive sector, self-regulating the UK’s motor industry through our comprehensive Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI)-approved Codes of Practice. These drive even higher standards of work and service, giving consumers added protection, peace of mind, and trust during the vehicle purchase and ownership experience. Over 7,500 businesses are accredited to one or more of the Codes.
