Q&As on The Motor Ombudsman’s Knowledge Base are referred to by website visitors around 138,000 times in the closing three months of 2024
The Motor Ombudsman’s Knowledge Base, the online reference tool designed to provide consumers with responses to some of the most common queries on car ownership, vehicle maintenance and dispute resolution, saw a total of 137,554 article views during the last final three months of 2024. Despite this being a significant volume, this number was however, lower than the third quarter (163,938), but this is not unexpected, given the onset of the festive season.
For the three months to 31st December, the order of popularity of the ten most read articles saw little change in order versus the previous quarter, with the article about the rights of consumers when buying a car, remaining the most popular read for the second consecutive quarter, thanks to attracting nearly 12,500 visits – a slight rise versus the previous quarter (11,913). This was closely followed by the article about the Consumer Rights Act, and how it affects a vehicle purchase (9,691), which can also be found in the New and Used Car Sales category. Rounding off the top three most viewed subjects, was the Q&A looking at whether a car can be returned within 14 days of buying it, which witnessed around 7,000 visits in Q4.
The two articles which swapped places in the top 10 classification, were around the topics of what action a consumer is able to take should they find a fault within 30 days of buying a car, which climbed one place to seventh, with just over 4,800 views. In contrast, the Q&A about whether a consumer can get their money back after putting down a deposit for a new or used car, dropped to eighth position in the table, but still with a tally of visits getting close to 4,500.
Rounding off the top ten for the fourth quarter of 2024 is the Q&A touching on how vehicle owners can resolve a problem with a garage or dealer – an article which explains best practice in terms of the steps to take when consumers have a complaint with a business (3,595 views).
2024 Knowledge Base performance
Overall for 2024, there were 627,799 views recorded across the Knowledge Base throughout the year, which was an increase of nearly 10% versus the total seen in 2023 (578,150). It is also just shy of the all-time yearly high of 641,127 seen in 2022, thereby highlighting the continued popularity of the resource amongst Motor Ombudsman website users.
In total, the Knowledge Base has attracted nearly 2.5 million views since launching at the beginning of 2019 (please refer to the table at the foot of this article).
